“The Crossroads of Life”
As I journey through life exploring onward all that there is left unto me to discover,
Traveling with purpose carefully, planting every step, seeking all that which there is to uncover,
Not to hurry passing by treasures not shinning brightly for then I waste,
Many along the way who scurry on by quickly in their great and pointless haste,
With “the little time” that they seem to think that they have but their time is the very same as all the rest,
As they clumsily, unwarily trample treasures to quickly get ahead, mumbling, grumbling, complaining that someone’s taken them all,
“It’s not fair, where’s my share, I have taken such great care to get ahead but ever so soon, I find myself slipping, sliding, stumbling and pre-positioned for an inevitable fall”,
They are soon gone as a vapor mist vanishing in an instant, those with heads held high laughing calling me slow, thinking that it’s so good to be so far ahead,
Devoured by wolves hidden in patient waiting sparing me from painful and perilous fate of those who are now dead,
I find their bones, the wolves sleep with their bellies full and those laughing with delight earlier no longer scurry quickly, hastily, blindly their treasures are now scattered and added to mine,
It is always now and it takes as long as it takes do what is right, don’t be deceived with the foolish perception of the illusion of time,
I sit at a crossroad within my heart pondering my destiny as if it would be truly mine to decide,
There I sit beside a field of wildflowers as far as the eye can see and they all seem the same and there’s no need to test,
At a distance there is one that rises high above them all tall and slender ever so tender, dancing softly and gracefully in time to the gentle spring breeze,
Hundreds and thousands in the field yet I behold only one… a royal elegant princess stirring my heart to the desire to please,
A rose shining brightly, emanating a rare pure beauty that should be a crime for any to ever hide,
Tempted to pluck her, for she seems out of place, I remember the unbearable hurtful pain, for a rose has thorns that draw blood and like a flag of scarlet both of them red,
My treasure, my calling, or is this my falling, I’m dazed with uncertainty that runs wild and frantically through my spinning head,
I consider that there is a chance that this is either a distraction or bait for an inescapable trap of destruction,
Still I can’t help but stare and gaze with wonder at the inescapable beauty and the grace of this marvelous work of perfection,
For which of us truly understand if we behold true love or a counterfeit replica of the common gloriously glittering pyrite,
Or do we behold what seems a dull, common, worthless stone on the outside that shines with more brilliance than the sun inside until it is carefully cut and polished becoming a rare and long sought after gemstone that shines ever so bright,
We both stand at the crossroads of our hearts, wondering if it's really worth the pain?
Just a passing, should we scurry quickly, risk great fall or make plans for future encounters again,
On the other hand if we part in fear of the unknown, do we not send the other to fend for themselves in a world of violence treachery and deception?
To journey as we have for so long with no one to love, no one to care, no one to lean on for comfort and there is no one to aid in protection,
Life and love, their scheme is so complex with infinite possibilities for each of our decisions… too broad for any to comprehend,
Each and every word ever uttered by the lips could alter the expanse of the universe without doubt and literally reshape the lives of O’ so many… Oh, why do we even pretend?
And if I hesitate only for only an instant… then this may never be, for time and love waits for no one, like a train keeping schedule, it departs swiftly without the slightest hesitation, no tears shed, no not even a twinkling of a thought of remorse,
So I ponder with diligence for I do not have the omniscient understanding of great wisdom for me to choose,
For I think I’m right and then without warning righteous truth and justice prevail to cause the proud to suddenly loose,
The course of life is set and planned ever so intricately into perfection by he who sets the course,
Follow your heart with wisdom not haste for this becomes a rare and precious gem,
Or spend your life trying to find where you lost it, hoping that it will beat once more, O’ just one more time again, all because you followed not wisdom, but you followed a foolish whim,
